The Sky Road is an exciting 11km drive west of Clifden filled with breathtaking views throughout. If you are departing from Clifden and driving west, be sure to get a view of the town; 12 Bens Mountains along with two of the church spires gives Clifden a unique and beautiful skyline. Further along the road, you will find a gateway leading towards the ruins of Clifden Castle. There is a farm track off Sky Road that leads toward the castle, and it is about a 10 minute walk on the track. Further down the road, the street splits into two directions. Lower Sky Road goes along the shore, but it is recommended to take the higher road instead, where you will reach a height over 150m with incredible views of the islands and the coastline. There are lovely beaches when you approach the coast after the high road meets with the low road, and if you continue on Sky Road the entire time, it will loop back around towards the N59 road, which can lead you back to Clifden.
