The current lighthouse tower at the edge of Loop Head, the most westerly point on the Clare coastline, was built in 1854 and stands 23m above the ground. The views offered at the top of the lighthouse and the all around are absolutely incredible. The lighthouse is now open to the public, and an exhibition of the history of the lighthouse is located at the Light Keeper’s Cottage. If you wish to visit the lighthouse and climb to the top, there is a guided tour, and on a clear day, you can see as far north as the Twelve Pins in Connemara. Spend some time to enjoy the scenery and walk along the coastline after you visit the famous lighthouse.
