Croagh Patrick Mountain is located 8km from Westport and stands 764m tall. Croagh Patrick is filled with history, acting as a place of worship as far back as 3000 BC, and it is an important site of pilgrimage in County Mayo. In fact, it is climbed by pilgrims every year on Reek Sunday, the last Sunday of July. The mountain’s famous conical shape soars above the ground, and the views here are absolutely incredible. Magnificent views of Clew Bay and the entire countryside can be viewed here, so be sure to bring your camera. Normally, it takes about two hours to climb the mountain and about another hour and a half to descend. The Croagh Patrick visitor centre is located near the National Famine Monument in Murrisk; the monument depicts a coffin ship with skeleton bodies and commemorates the anniversary of the Famine.
