Valentia Island is home to some of the most spectacular views in all of Ireland. Bray Head is located on the western edge of Valentia Island, and from Bray Head, you can see Skellig Michael and Small Skellig, two islands rising from the Atlantic about 13km southwest of Valentia Island. The views from Bray Head and of the islands are spectacular, and feel free to take a personal journey during your time here. Skellig Michael was a well-preserved monastic outpost during the early Christian period, and it is now a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Skellig Michael can be reached by climbing over 600 steps on a 1000 year old stairway. Meanwhile, Small Skellig is famous since it hosts the world’s second largest colony of gannets. Both islands are absolutely incredible. If you are feeling brave and adventurous, you can take a boat trip to truly experience these islands. If you wish to stay on dry land, you can see observe the beautiful scenery around you and visit the Skellig Experience Centre instead.
